Creating Walls of Enduring Beauty

This recessed ceiling space gets a check pattern to match the check pattern in the lighting fixture and then a marble treatment for the flat ceiling areas.

In the opposite side of the house the check pattern is repeated to again match the same lighting fixture.

Notice in the photo below how both the inside and outside corners match up perfectly with the squares.
Spacing is one of the most tricky aspects of doing a check pattern, making sure when you get to the corners they align perfectly with the checks and also when you go all the way around the room you want the pattern to match up without getting two black checks next to each other or a partial check.
